YOUTH - JAYA

The Jain Association of Young Adults (JAYA) was officially formed in 1993. It was created to give the young Jain adults in our community an organization that was geared towards addressing their special interests. It was recognized that young adults were slipping out of touch with the Jain Center because a gap existed between the age at which they stopped going to JCYC and the age at which they would participate as an adult member in the Jain Center. Thus, JAYA was created to bring religious, educational, and social events to these young adults. These events have not only helped foster social networks amongst the Jain youth of our community, but they have also helped young adults remain in touch with their culture and religion as they go through college, climb the professional ladder, and begin formng families. The ideas behind JAYA have always been supported and endorsed, however, actual participation from the young adults in the community has been sparse over the years. Support from the community is essential in order to help keep JAYA, and the ideas behind JAYA, alive.

Some of JAYA's past and upcoming activities include:

Social Gathering - Picnic, Lunch, Dinner
Dance, Raas-Garba
Religious and Social Shibir
Winter Camp
Big Brother/Big Sister Program
College Night - Information about colleges, careers, financial aid

Currently, JAYA has over 100 members between the ages of 15 and 29. We urge parents to get their youth involved in JAYA activities.

If you are interested in becoming a member of JAYA or in being part of the committee, please contact the JAYA Coordinator, Vipin Vadecha, at 909-861-2677 or e-mail vadechav@juno.com.
