(911 total words in this text) (19538 Reads)
The following is a brief description of various swadhyays conducted at the JCSC. It is forwarded to you all with the hope that you will get better understanding and appreciation of various swadhyays going on at the JCSC and hopefully you will plan to join one of them. The swadhyays are conducted for the benefit of the JCSC members.
Brief description for Monday & Sunday Swadhyay by Shri Girishbhai is as follows:
Monday Swadhyays are conducted by Pujya Girishbhai Shah in Gujarati .
This Swadhyay is conducted every Monday 8.30 pm to 10.00 pm through out the year.
We have about 50 people attending the Swadhyay on regular basis.
Adhyatmasar by Upadhyay Yashovijaysuriji is the book used for these Swadhyays.
People with little knowledge of Nav Tatva can attend this Swadhyay.
Girishbhai answers any and all questions. So even if you don't understand very much
initially, the explanation and understanding given touches our daily lives and
that is what helps us all live a better life the Jain way.
Sunday swadhyays are conducted on the pathshala days from 10 am to 12.30 am in Gujarati .
Almost 125 people attend this swadhyay. This swadhyay is for people with little or no religious knowledge. Once you attend this swadhyay you would always like to come back to it. It gives you an in depth understanding of Jain religion and the ways to conduct yourself in this western world.
Brief Description for Tuesday Swadhyay by Shri Hasendrabhai is as follows: (in Gujarati)
Most of us feel that we Jains, have very rich spiritual and cultural heritage. We also are proud of our way of living, being vegeterian caring for others etc.
However at times we feel that we do not know enough about our faith and religious practices. It is hard for us when our colleagues at work or our children ask
WHAT IT IS or HOW IT IS and WHY IT IS SO ? HOW IS IT DIFFERENT, IF AT ALL FROM OTHER GOOD RELIGIOUS PRACTICES ?
When you want to know basics of Jain Philosophy, WHAT it is, HOW it is and WHY is it so ? Study of Nav Tatvas provides you the basic understanding of Jain Philosophy.
It also provides you the base for advance studies in Jain Philosophy. More than that merely studying about it, it can clarify many practice concepts and make the religious practices more meaningful and spiritually rewarding.
So whatever may be one's objective, Study of Nav Tatva would be a rewarding enough to meet your objective. Ofcourse desire, patience and persistence to understand the philosophy are the key ingredients.
You are welcome to join Tuesday's sessions at any given time. No in depth prior study or background is needed for these sessions. So far Two of the Nine Tatvas(Reals)......JIV and AJIV have been discussed in the Tuesday's sessions. We are begining PUNYA Tatva now.
Feel free to join Tuesday's sessions. In person attendance is the best way to get most out of it as you can interact with the group as we move forward.
Those who can not in ATTEND IN PERSON can avail the benefit Via Phone Bridge or Video Boradcast. Most sessions are posted as Audio sessions on Jain Center websites for listening at convenient time.
Please note that these are not preaching sessions, rather creating understanding about our faith and feel REALLY PROUD OF OUR JAIN HERIATGE.
There are no expectations of attendees about their practice preference or lifestyles, but it could be beneficial and rewarding.
Brief Desciption of Thursday Swadhyay by Shri Rameshbhai Khandhar :
Every Thursday, from 8:30 to 10 pm, the Swadhyay in the form of religious discussion and Prashnottary (Question-Answer) is conducted in the Aaradhna Hall at the Jain Center of Southern California by Shri Rameshbhai Khandhar in Gujarati with the support of Shri Rajnibhai Modi and Mahendrabhai Khandhar when they are present.
The religious discussion is based on Shrimad Rajchandra Vachnamrut (collection of about 1000 letters written to householders and Sadhaks regarding their daily life issues & sadhna) and other scriptures (Nav Tattva, Tattvarth Sutra, Samaysaar, Moksha Marg Prakashak, Dravya Sangrah, etc).
The discussion is in simple words keeping in mind our daily life applications and examples.
The Prashnottary (Q-A) is based on the questions from the attendees. Some examples of recent questions include:
meditation and obstacles in concentration, how to make the religious rituals more fruitful with Bhaav (reflection), Mithyatva and its types with remedies, Darshan Mohniya and how to minimize with ultimate aim of annihilation, etc.
There is no pre-requisite for this swadhyay/class, except the interest and priority in attendance.
Anybody with any level can attend and benefit. It will make us inquisitive and enthusiastic (Jignasu / Mumukshu), and settle us on Sadhana Path as taught by Mahavir Swami and all Gnanis.
Everybody is welcome.
